Map of Beleriand
I edited together the four-pages that make up the large map of Beleriand in Karen Wynn Fonstad’s The Atlas of Middle-Earth. I also added a bit of color and texture to make it feel more like a map.
It’s the return of the First Age Midnight Doodle (usually I only post these on twitter, but whatever; I’ve been posting art here lately, so why not).
Tonight’s drawing is of Tuor, who I have a particular soft spot for (Yeah, I know he’s actually blond but I was deceived by deceptive cover art and I’ve imagined otherwise for years. My compromise is that he has darker blond hair… which would be more evident in a colored piece.).
While most of my fan art is Zelda related, that’s only the tip of the iceberg. My sketchbook has become a giant heap of first age drawings (most of which you will never see). I love drawing this stuff so much because I have to make sure everyone looks related, but distinct, and I have to take culture into account, along with arms and weaponry evolution. It’s a great and stimulating challenge.

Don’t worry everyone, he’ll fall down near the end for some unexplained reason possibly extraterrestrial. But lucky this man in a long coat will appear just in time to save the day.

I’m starting a series of Japanese woodblock designs - each one will show a classic game character in samurai form!
Please follow my Tumblr! – I’ll be posting these regularly.
