endlessmoe: rawsexting: Top photo from “Mars” Curiosity.  We, of course, have seen that photo 30 years ago in Star Wars. oh shit It’s amazing how many people are being fooled by all these fake photos of Mars that were allegedly taken by Curiosity. Yes, I get that a lot of people are reblogging it because it’s a great image and/or because they’re in on the joke, but based on how many people thought Titantic was just a movie a few months back makes me inclined to believe that people out there actually think this is real. In addition to this photo, I saw one the other day of three planets in the Martian sky; the person who originally posted it (to tumblr that is, it originally came from somewhere else) confirmed later that it wasn’t the real deal. This secondary photo at least makes sense, considering it is possible to see three planets in the sky of any planet within our system, but the last time I checked there is only one sun in our system. Perhaps people are confusing this binary sunset with Mar’s moons? In any case, the fact that the coloring is identical to the still from Star Wars should tip people’s hats. But to add to the inaccuracies, no photos of this style have come from Curiosity yet. These are the best images for far to come from the new rover. The photo in question, at least the original photo before it was put through photoshop, was actually taken by Spirit back in 2005:
